Privacy Banner

The Essence theme offers a custom privacy banner designed to assist Shopify store owners in complying with data privacy regulations, particularly when selling to buyers in the European Union (EU). This feature allows you to display a privacy banner asking visitors for consent to collect customer data.

Enabling the Privacy Banner

To enable the Privacy Banner in the Essence theme, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Shopify admin.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Click on Customer Privacy.
  4. Click on Cookie Banner, then More actions.
  5. Choose Use custom cookie banner.

Upon selecting the custom cookie banner option, you will be presented with a recommended list of countries where the banner should be displayed. Click confirm to enable the banner.

Note
It is essential to also publish a Privacy Policy to fully comply with data privacy regulations. You can set up your Privacy Policy in the Customer Privacy settings within your Shopify admin.

Customizing the Privacy Banner

Once the custom Privacy Banner is enabled, you can modify its text and position to suit your store's design and messaging. Here's how to customize it:

  1. Access the theme editor by opening the Shopify admin.
  2. Click on Online Store and then select Themes.
  3. Find the Essence theme and click on Customize.
  4. In the theme editor, click on Privacy Banner in the sidebar.
  5. Here, you will find settings to edit the banner text and its position.
